Board members sought for ILCNSCA
(Independent Living Center of the North Shore and Cape Ann), located in Lynn MA.
ILCNSCA is one of eleven state-funded organizations in Massachusetts with the job of being a one-stop center for information that can help the disabled. They provide information to both individuals with disabilities and other organizations, such as Councils for the Aged or those supporting the blind. As with most state supported organizations, funding restrictions can hamper their efforts to do more, even doing more with less. So setting the ILCNSCA vision for their area of responsibility (now twenty five towns) and being creative about the means of realizing that vision are jobs for the board members.
Federal law requires each ILC to have board members with disabilities be a minimum 51 percent of the board total and the by-laws call for one third of the board to be replaced each year! This organization has set out three strategic objectives for the next three years: 1.) Update the Strategic Plan; 2.) Put costs onto specific objectives in the Plan; and 3.) Create brand recognition. The significance of the last objective came out in April 2007 when the home town newspaper, the Salem News, did a full page write up on an ILC, never mentioning the one in Salem. The ILCNSCA is well recognized by their referring organizations and by the other organizations they support, but has little recognition by the public at large. So they are looking for board member candidates for this year or next who can help with strategic planning, costing, or marketing.
